[robotics-worldwide] Fwd: [Meetings] LAST Call for Pecha Kucha prezs DL March 5 for ERF 2018 Workshop on Unfulfilled needs and novel research ideas for future robotics in Tampere, Finland March 14th 2018

Dear all,

you are invited to  submit a 5' Pecha Kucha prez (
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__en.wikipedia.org_wiki_PechaKucha&d=DwIBaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=uuELz1g7TosUsuI7WRL6SjCWx4r2ez155WYILEWpJGk&s=y-djdXDd9TR6inLOvXw2p_0J2QUesifIH6k0kgVYBxo&e=) to be performed at the ERF 2018
Workshop on Unfulfilled Needs and Novel Research Ideas for Future Robotics
(part of the Innovation ecosystems track)

Recent initiatives such as the Flag-Era RoboCom++ FET-Flagship
Proof-of-concept project, see www.robocomplusplus.eu,  claim that the
Robotics mechatronic paradigm and the so called GOFAI, Good Old Fashioned
AI, will not be able to deliver many much needed application due to their
inherent limitations.
However, not everyone in the Robotics and AI communities will agree. This
workshop aims to provide a neutral terrain where the pros and cons of
different approaches and paradigms could be openly and uncompromisingly
discussed. It is thought that rigorous experimental methodologies and
benchmarking procedures will be key in the future robotics research. Gaps
in current applications will be discussed

The workshop will consist of a few 5' Pecha Kucha presentations, some
invited and some selected through this open call. We will leave significant
space for a structured discussion between industry and academia
representatives.

Participants (and the community) will be involved in a (both online and by
other media) discussion before and after the workshop. The best ideas will
be included in the plenary discussion during the ws and afterwards.

__Crazy ideas are solicited and welcome__(and 'conservative' positions are,
too!)

We look forward your participation!

Stay tuned!
All the best
Fabio

[robotics-worldwide] [meetings] Call for Participantion - ERF 2018 - Friday 15th of March "A.I., Automated Planning and Robotics: Going into the wild"

AndreA Orlandini-2

-- Apologies for multiple copies --

The 15th of March 2018 (10.45am-12.15pm), the Workshop on "A.I.,
Automated Planning and Robotics: Going into the wild" will be held
within the European Robotics Forum 2018 (ERF 2018) in Tampere, Finland.

This ERF Workshop constitutes a follow up of a scientific initiative,
named PlanRob (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__pst.istc.cnr.it_planrob_&d=DwIDaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=j5y-jC9VMWVrotOqmoQGOMZgTQj44nsaErFNubRkoog&s=UBNbbCou4YQ7h62EHda40-9RX5tC89esAHK8ZAT2SNc&e=), started within the
Planning and Scheduling (P&S) research community with the twofold aim of
creating a common long-term forum where researchers from both P&S and
Robotics communities can discuss about common interests and efforts,
figure out shared challenges and discuss expectations about future
developments. In this perspective, the aim of this ERF workshop is to
bridge the gap between researchers and practitioners in P&S and
Robotics, pushing recent technological advancements out of the
laboratories for deploying a new generation of Intelligent Robots
endowed with flexible, adaptive and goal-oriented behaviors, long-term
autonomy, advanced interaction with humans in structured collaborative
activities.

The ERF 2018 is the meeting point for robotics in Europe, bringing
together researchers, engineers, managers, and a growing number of
entrepreneurs and business people from all over Europe. ERF 2018 will be
in Tampere (Finland) from the 13th of March 2018 to 15th of March 2018.
The objectives of the forum are to: Identify the potential of robotics
applications for business, the creation of jobs, and meeting societal
needs; Discuss the state of the art and most recent breakthroughs in
applications; Learn about new robotic business opportunities, including
those arising through establishment of spin-offs, and ongoing
initiatives in robotics within Europe; Influence decision makers and
strengthen collaboration between stakeholders in the robotics community.

List of Invited Talks
- Cecile Huet (Deputy Head AI and Robotics - EU Commission)
- Jose Saenz (member of euRobotics board of directors, Coordinator of
Industrial Robotics Topic Group - IFF Fraunhofer, Germany)
