The project supports our industrial partners in developing capabilities to enable swarm technologies. The overall project seeks to develop a swarming infrastructure, both in simulation and operational systems, to support swarms of up to 250 aerial and ground vehicles. OSU’s efforts are focused on developing and integrating the swarm interaction grammar into the overall system. The interaction grammar will map swarm tactics to interaction modalities. Further, OSU’s efforts focus on interaction validation via user evaluations of the interactive capabilities, both with simulation and during field exercises. We are looking for creative individuals, who are excited by a collaborative industrial-university research experience and are motivated by the opportunity to work in areas beyond their own technical expertise. While the position will require travel to support our research partners and field exercises, the primary location for this position will be within CoRIS on OSU’s main campus, in Corvallis, OR.
Applicants should be recent graduates with a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in computer science, robotics, or related discipline. Successful candidates will possess strong analytical, system development, user experimentation, and communication skills, including a record of scholarly writing. The duties and responsibilities for this position include:
1) Development and system integration of the swarm interaction grammar.
2) Designing and conducting user evaluations of the overall effort’s technology.
3) Set up and evaluation of the team’s technology (virtual environment, hardware systems, etc.) at OSU.
4) Data collection and analysis.
5) Preparation of results for presentation, publication, and contractual reports.
6) Training, directing, and mentoring students and support personnel.
