The iCub Facility Line at Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, an
English-language research institute, is seeking a highly motivated,
full-time post-doc, who will have a leading research role in the design and
control of an innovative collaborative gripper for industrial applications.

The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary team and will have the
opportunity to pursue research within a project jointly developed by IIT
with Camozzi Automation Group, an industrial partner operating worldwide in
the automation field.

The aim of the project is to create the next-generation of collaborative
grippers that will be employed in factory plants working safely with, or in
close proximity to, humans. The project objectives range from the
development of a force sensing system to be used with pneumatic grippers to
the development of a novel electrical collaborative gripper capable of
interacting with the environment and with human operators. The investigation
will include the design of a control system for grasping soft and fragile
objects and the integration of sensors and electronics to enhance
human-robot interaction.

The successful candidate should have the following skills:
- Ph.D. degree (already taken or expected to be taken soon) in in robotics,
engineering or related areas;
- Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable
- Hands-on experience with analysis, design, and testing of robotic systems;
- Broad understanding of modern and innovative manufacturing techniques;
- Experience in control and programming in C++ is welcome;
- Familiarity with data acquisition, control and communications with
embedded systems is welcome;
- Experience in mechanical design with Solidworks, Creo etc., actuators and
drives, hands-on system integration is welcome;
- Experience in computer vision and object recognition is welcome;

Expected start date is March 2018 or soon after.
