Summary
Smart Ocean Systems (SOS) laboratory at the Graduate School of Oceanography,
University of Rhode Island, is seeking a graduate student to work marine
robots, i.e., AUVs and ASVs. The new member is expected to perform research
on an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) for coastal water monitoring. In

Qualifications and Skills
- Possessing a Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree from STEM majors,
- Familiar with Linux operating system and programming languages such as
Python, C++,
- Familiar with engineering software, e.g., Solidworks, and analysis tools,
e.g., MATLAB,
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving capability, excellent communication
skills, and scientific writing/reporting skills
- Relevant experience on underwater vehicles or robotics will be considered
as an asset,
- Relevant experience in oceanography will be considered as an asset,

Job Profile
The successful candidate is expected to start in January 2019 or September
2019.
Two-year financial support will be provided at an annual rate of 60k
including teaching assistantship. Financial support extension is subject to
future grants.
We encourage and will support prospective students to apply for scholarships
from the university, National Science Foundation, or Office of Naval
Research.
