Plymouth University is looking for an outstanding student for a fully
funded and exciting PhD position in *Deep learning applied to
Socio-Cognitive Human-Robot Interaction*.
The student will work under the supervision of Dr. Séverin Lemaignan.
During her/his PhD, the student will explore a challenging yet exciting
new line of research, at the crossroad of Artificial Intelligence,
Cognitive Sciences and Robotics. By engaging her/him in the forefront of
research, with potentially high visibility/high impact research, this
project can be an ideal start for an internationally-leading academic or
industrial career, improving the highly-valued competences of those
interested in Deep Learning and Cognitive Sciences.
The Human-Robot Interaction lab at Plymouth University is one of the top
team worldwide in HRI. It offers a thriving academic environment where
excellent candidates will have access to a wide range of robots
(including Pepper, iCub, Baxter, Nao), unique expertise in cognitive
sciences and artificial neural networks, and extensive knowledge of
applied, experimental robotics. Plymouth lies as well right between
Devon and Cornwall, two UK regions of outstanding natural beauty -- a

The studentship is supported for three years and includes full home/EU
tuition fees plus a stipend of £14,057 per annum. Note that the
studentship will only fully fund those applicants who are eligible for
home/EU fees with relevant qualifications. Applicants normally required
to cover overseas fees will have to cover the difference between the
home/EU and the overseas tuition fee rates (approximately £11,040 per
