Kraken Robotik GmbH (KRG), located in Bremen, Germany is the recently founded fully owned German subsidiary of the Canadian company Kraken Robotics Inc. The focus of KRG is the development and commercialisation of new technologies in the area of underwater robot autonomy and underwater vision systems.

Under Water Robot Autonomy Engineer (f/m)


We are searching for an engineer (m/f) to be part of the team developing
control systems, autonomy functions, navigation systems and pattern recognition systems
for autonomous underwater robots.

Together with our Canadian mother, Kraken Robotik GmbH in Germany
has entered the market of underwater inspection systems with focus on offshore oil and gas as well
as offshore wind. We are currently expanding our team in the area of autonomous control. We aim to
industrialise the current state of the art in research on autonomous control, decision making,
obstacle avoidance and map building for the usage in underwater robotic systems.

Primary focus of work of the applicant in the next three years will be on the autonomy control and
navigation systems for a deep-sea crawler within in a project funded by the European Union.

We are looking for people that...
...bring a strong interest in programming of autonomous mobile robots
...are interested in new concepts for navigation and pattern recognition
...in creating autonomy algorithms for robots in real working environments
...are ready to help with mechatronic integration, from unscrewing screws to soldering connectors
...look forward spending time on vessels out on the water for real word trials

Education & Experience:
- Master level degree from a college or university in engineering (mechanical/electrical/control/software)
- Preferable more than one year working experience

Skills in more than one of the following areas:
- Strong programming skills in C/C++, Ruby, Python, Bash
- Kalman and Bayes Filtering
- SLAM Algorithms
- Mobile robot control system
- Working with Open Source Communities
- Basic Linux system administration
- Basic knowledge in electronics and mechanics

Primary working location for this job offer is the Kraken Robotik office in Bremen, Germany. But it is to
be expected, that the applicant regularly spend longer peridos of time at our mother companies office
in St. John's, NL, Canada.

Software Engineer Underwater Vision (f/m)

As a Software Engineer at Kraken Robotik GmbH, you will be involved and help lead the development of algorithms performing realtime 3D reconstructions and understanding of underwater scenes using state of the art sensing technologies. You will be responsible for implementing, improving and testing algorithm on hardware prototypes in the area of but not limited to machine vision and artificial intelligence. Your approach and attention to detail will help the company to deliver disruptive technologies to the underwater market improving the cost effectiveness of underwater search and rescue mission as well as inspection campaigns.

Basic Qualifications:
• Degree in Software Engineering or related field
• Proven experience writing code in C/C++, on a Unix/Linux platform
• Experience in one or more of these areas: cameras, sensors and associated
algorithm development
• Good English language skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• Masters in Computer Science or related field with 3 years experience
• Experience using Qt, QML, OpenCV, Boost, Std, CUDA, OpenCL
• Experience with Ruby, Python, Java Script, Rust or Go
• Experience with RTOS and debugging electrical issues
• Working with Open Source Communities

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Help lead the development of state of the art sensing algorithm.
• Implement C/C++ code running within a Linux stack including documenting and
testing code that meets the architecture requirements
• Debug existing C/C++ code, find root causes and resolve software issues
• Regression testing of distributed software stacks on large data sets
• Work with new technologies that are vital to product development
• Successfully collaborate with both software and hardware product teams
