[robotics-worldwide] [jobs] PhD Openings in Robotics, Rutgers Computer Science

Jingjin Yu-2
Multiple PhD Positions in Robotics
Department of Computer Science, Rutgers University at New Brunswick

The Algorithmic Robotics and Control (ARC) lab

in the Department of Computer Science at Rutgers University, New Brunswick has multiple funded PhD positions in robotics and related areas including theory, algorithms, and AI/ML.

The Computer Science department at Rutgers is ranked 15th in robotics in the US by CSRankings (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__csrankings.org&d=DwIFAw&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=3DHu9hr7TQMCbph7pJ3IPU772Vth4xDYx-R11tancY8&s=8xJMA_oTDXPaaZTwonemeFhhK2gByxouJGmyWQTAP4Y&e=), 16th with AI and robotics combined, and 29th overall. The university is conveniently located less than 40 minutes away from the New York City and 20 minutes from one of the largest international airports, the Newark Liberty International Airport.

The ARC lab, directed by Dr. Jingjin Yu, is broadly interested in fundamental and applied research for bringing about the next generation of intelligent autonomous robots. Currently, the lab has a focus on multi-object manipulation and multi-robot collaboration. However, we are generally looking for prospective students, regardless of a particular research topic, who have: (1) the right background, and (2) a strong interest in robotics. In particular, students interested in fundamental research should ideally have the following qualifications:

- Self-driven and devoted to graduate study
- Strong quantitative (e.g., mathematical, algorithmic) reasoning skills
- Good programming skills
- Strong communication and writing skills

Students interested in more applied or mixed fundamental/applied research should ideally have the following qualifications:

- Self-driven and devoted to graduate study
- Excellent programming skills (C++ and Python)
- Robotics programming skills (e.g., ROS) a plus
- Strong communication and writing skills

Interested prospective student (CS, math, physics, ME, and ECE are preferred) are encouraged to contact Dr. Yu via email at
