We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher who will join our team to develop algorithms for navigation and object manipulation on our humanoid robot R1, in the context of domestic and healthcare applications. The selected candidate will join the interdisciplinary team of the iCub project, and will have the opportunity to work in an exciting and young environment, in close interaction with research engineers, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.
The main tasks will be to explore how to integrate various aspects of robotics that are typically studied in isolation (e.g. visual perception, machine learning, motion planning, object grasping and manipulation using visual and tactile feedback) to implement advanced capabilities for navigation and object manipulation in unstructured environments. Results will be experimentally validated with the R1 humanoid robot, under real world conditions involving end users.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Robotics or equivalent and the following skills:
Ability to analyze, improve and propose new algorithms/solutions;
Strong motivation to work with real robotic systems;
Experience with mobile manipulation and navigation;
Knowledge of C++ and development tools (e.g. CMake and GIT);
Familiarity with robotic middleware (e.g. YARP, ROS).
