The research activity is part of a major 5-year EPSRC Programme grant to the STORM Lab aiming to deliver ultrasonic devices for minimal access interventional surgery via a soft, flexible and compliant robotic manipulator through winding and convoluted pathways. This collaborative grant has partners at the Universities of Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Southampton. The post-doctoral fellow will be integrated in a team of enthusiastic and highly motivated researchers and will also be able to pursue his/her own creative ideas.

The profile of the ideal candidate includes
- A PhD in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or Robotics;
- Experience and a proven track-record in at least one of the following areas (with peer-reviewed publications in high-impact-factor journals): soft robots, continuum robots, continuum manipulators, capsule robots, surgical instrumentation, magnetic manipulation, robotic manipulators;

The position has a duration of two years and is renewable until 2023.

Deadline for application is Tuesday 30 October 2018 for a start date by the end of 2018.
