At DRS we work on legged robot autonomy, and
focus on navigation, estimation, motion planning and control for dynamic
robots in real-world environments.

The postdoctoral researcher will develop robust approaches to autonomous
legged mobility in challenging environments. The goal is to formulate
reactive motion planning as a fast sensory-motor loop that will allow
re-planning with online perception. This project will focus on the
ANYmal quadruped robot and can potentially explore a full range of
approaches; from MPC to learning control, to deep RL. The post is funded
by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and is
for a fixed duration of 2 years.

_Requirements_:
- PhD/DPhil (or near completion) in robotics, computer science, machine
learning, artificial intelligence, control, or closely related field
- Excellent academic track record in topics relevant to legged
locomotion; path and motion planning, whole-body control, multi-contact
locomotion, machine learning and optimization, avatar animation or
related areas
- Excellent programming skills
- Outstanding team and communication skills

_Desirable_:
- Experience with dynamic robots (quadrupeds, manipulators, humanoids)
- Experience with planning with dynamics, optimization, compliance,
torque control, contact
- A very good understanding of control aspects of multi-articulated
robots and rigid body dynamics
- Knowledge of optimal control theory and machine learning approaches
- Unix/Linux, ROS, Git
- Work on real robots
