Hybrid UAVs and UUVs for ocean monitoring applications
Unmanned airborne vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) can support monitoring of environmental parameters such as oil spills, red tide at sea. Recent advances in vehicle control technology and propulsion systems make it even feasible to construct hybrid unmanned vehicles that can operate in air and underwater interchangeably. This vehicle will be capable of rapidly covering large areas of the ocean and easy of launch and recovery from support vessels.
We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Assistant to work with Marine Technology & Equipment Research Group, Institute of Oceanography, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, to design and fabricate this innovated vehicle. We are looking for motivated roboticists with a strong background in hardware design, software development and with expertise in one or several of the following areas:
Experience with designing and fabricating UAVs or/and UUVs from components.
Experience with Arduino/ ARM based microcontroller programming.
Extensive experience with one or several programming languages, such as C/C++, Python, MATLAB, Java.
Experience with hardware implementation of robust and adaptive control strategies on UAV/UUV.
Further requirements include:
Drone autopilots and protocols (e.g. ArduPilot, Mavlink)
Multi-agent coordination protocols (distributed planning, auction protocols, etc.)
Prior experience using ROS and its development environment.
Independent working style.

Minimum Education: Ph.D. in related areas or very experienced engineer.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is one of top universities in the world. The Marine Technology & Equipment Research Group of SJTU is reputable to have developed China's first set of 4500 meters remotely operated vehicle (ROV) "HAIMA-4500" and 1500 meters heavy duty work class ROV “HaiXiang-1500”.
The position is a full-time position for up to three years. The salary will be according to SJTU salary at postdoc level currently 180000 RMB/annul.
