[robotics-worldwide] [jobs] Research Associate in Offshore robotics, University of Edinburgh, deadline 21 Sept
An exciting position at the University of Edinburgh, School of Engineering, is open now on control/design of underwater robots operating in extreme weather conditions for maintenance and surveillance of oil drilling platforms and renewable energy plants.
The Research Associate in Offshore Robotics position targets cutting-edge research in the area of Autonomous Offshore Robotics. In particular, the PDRA will investigate underwater navigation, positioning and manipulation in dynamic environments. A major challenge for marine robotic systems, both top-side and subsea, is the presence of disturbances caused by waves, sea currents and wind loading while deploying sensors onto structures that may be moving. We will study these interactions to improve controllability and station-keeping.
The post holder will collaborate with 3 Research Associates at Institute of Integrated Micro and Nano Systems (IMNS) who investigate low-cost mobile sensor-networks that contain many (10+) exterioceptive sensing modalities as well as low-power local/global communications.
