based on IoT, AI-on-chip, and blockchain technologies

/Abstract/ The work aims at introducing a new-generation smart assistant
to support professional activities in various sectors. The research to
carry out will be focused on the design and development of an HW/SW
solution aimed at being deployed in business environments and based on:
(i) the acquisition and organisation of data relevant for carrying out a
specific activity (first computational level); (ii) an HW platform
equipped with an AI-enabled chipset, intelligent and personalised
algorithms integrated in an operational activity model at different
levels (second computational level); (iii) a trusted/secure environment
for the exchange and management of information/data and algorithms; (iv)
the integration in an environment based on distributed and decentralised
networks (using blockchain technologies) to enable a proper security
level associated with transactions of algorithms and critical data among
the involved professionals.

The work will be done jointly with the company Knowledge srl.

/Duration/ 2 years.

/Salary/ Two-year gross amount: 38.734,00 euro net of all charges borne
by the University (two-year gross cost of 47.574,00 euro).

/Destination/ Exclusive destination to candidates who are 29 years old
or below that age at the date 15.05.2018.

/Place/ Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics, and Systems
Engineering, University of Genoa.

(Program 5)

/Deadline/ October 30, 2019

** Position 2/

/Title/ Extraction of multi-modal data related to manipulation actions
using human demonstrations

/Abstract/ This work will be carried out in the context of the European
CHIST-ERA project InDex. It will deal with the extraction of
manipulation data starting from human-led examples. The work to be done
will include: the specifications of the physical environment (workspace,
sensor locations), the scenarios (use cases, the set of activities and
the actions), the requirements for data collection (recording system,
log format, number and duration of each session), as well as the
annotation protocols. The behaviour of volunteers in dexterous
manipulation tasks will be observed and recorded. The activity will
contribute to the creation of models useful for the generation of
canonical motion primitives (for the arm, the hand, the fingers), and
the in-hand object pose transition using tactile data.

InDex is a European CHIST-ERA project jointly carried out with Aston
University (UK), Sorbonne University (France), TU Wien (Austria),
University of Genoa (Italy), and University of Tartu (Estonia).

/Duration/ 2 years.

/Salary/ Annual pre-tax amount: 23.250,00 euro.

/Place/ Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics, and Systems
Engineering, University of Genoa.

/Deadline/ October 21, 2019

** Position 3/

/Title/ Creation of robot manipulation models using multi-modal data
obtained by human demonstrations

/Abstract/ This work will be carried out in the context of the European
CHIST-ERA project InDex. The goal will be to create a rich
representation of objects in terms of geometric and semantic features,
which will depend on how such objects are used in order to execute a
certain manipulation task. A simple geometrical representation will be
augmented with properties related to their usage to maximize the
likelihood of successful grasping and manipulation. The work will
require learning the most relevant object features as well as the
effects of manipulation actions and forces acting on them, including
physical forces.

** Position 4/

/Title/ Design and development of architectures and solutions for
speech-based human-robot interaction in smart environments

/Abstract/ The work to be done is related to human-robot interaction in
smart environments using speech-based technologies. It is part of a
joint research activity carried out together with the startup company
Teseo srl, which deals with smart environments and solutions for ambient
assisted living. The work will require the definition of a series of use
cases related to the assistance of elderly and people with special needs
where a speech-based interaction is relevant, their implementation in a
cloud-based software architecture, also using technologies developed by
the company, and its test in real-word environments.

/Duration/ 2 years.

/Salary/ Annual pre-tax amount: 23.250,00 euro.

/Place/ Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics, and Systems
Engineering, University of Genoa.
