Saga Robotics Ltd is working together with the University of Lincoln on
developing robotic strawberry harvesters. We are seeking to appoint two or
more full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellows, Engineers, or similar to join
the team. The successful candidate will be employed as part of the Innovate
UK funded GRASPberry project, which will develop a high speed soft fruit
picking robot. The project, led by the UK’s largest soft fruit industry
co-operative Berry Gardens, will combine advanced AI driven image
technology and active robotic manipulation with a high speed industrial
delta manipulator developed by the global leader ABB. The picking system
will be integrated into the existing agricultural mobile robot Thorvald
developed by Saga Robotics and the University of Lincoln.
We are looking to recruit a postdoctoral Research Fellow and/or Engineer
with relevant experience and/or a keen interest in a number of research
areas, including (not exclusively):
- robot perception and manipulation;
- motion planning;
- machine vision for agricultural applications;
- learning for autonomous systems;
- software engineering in robotics;
- mechanical engineer/automation engineer.
Hands-on experience from working with robots in the field is positive.
Applicants should have, or expect to soon obtain, an MSc or PhD degree (or
equivalent) in a relevant area. You must have excellent skills in either
computer science, including mathematical and coding skills (C++/Python,
ROS, PCL, OpenCV) or in mechanical engineering, including experience in
building automation and autonomous systems. The position offers the
opportunity to engage in international collaboration within an ambitious
team, to work with state-of-the-art robotic hardware and software, and to
benefit from excellent support to produce and disseminate original research
contributions in the leading international conferences and journals.
The posts will be a fixed term for 24 months with excellent opportunities
for ongoing career development with Saga Robotics either in UK or Norway.
Informal enquiries about the post can be made to Halvard Grimstad (
[hidden email]), or Pål Johan From ([hidden email]).
Applications are to be submitted to Halvard Grimstad by October 21st.
