[robotics-worldwide] [jobs] Summer internship: machine vision for Mars sample return, NASA JPL, Pasadena CA
SUMMER INTERNSHIP IN MACHINE VISION FOR MARS SAMPLE RETURN
NASA JET PROPULSION LABORATORY, PASADENA, CA
The Computer Vision Group at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, is looking for a U.S. or LPR summer intern to conduct research, development and testing of vision-guided behaviors for sample handling on Mars.
The Mars 2020 rover mission is intended to core and collect samples. M2020 will store the samples in metal tubes and leave those on the Martian surface. In the proposed MSR campaign concept, a follow-up mission dubbed Sample Retrieval and Launch (SRL) would collect the sample tubes and load them into a Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV) to be launched into orbit.
The primary responsibility associated with this internship is to assist JPL scientists with prototyping and testing vision-guided mechanisms for tube localization, tube pick-up, and storage insertion.
Applicants should submit:
- a curriculum vitae (including education, skills, experience),
- a link to a code versioning account such as GitHub.com, illustrating past programming projects,
- legal status (U.S. citizen/LPR/FN),
- date of availability.
Applications should be submitted to Renaud.J.Detry at jpl.nasa.gov *as a reply to this email*, with email title "Re: [robotics-worldwide] [jobs] Summer internship: machine vision for Mars sample return, NASA JPL, Pasadena CA"
Applications can be sent immediately and will be evaluated until the position is taken.
