*** The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science (MEMS) of the Duke University Pratt School of Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position starting in September 2018. ***
Candidates in the broad area of mechanical engineering are encouraged to apply, but preference will be given to those whose research falls in the areas of robotics, design, manufacturing, machine learning, acoustics, dynamics and vibrations, energy, or systems.
The Pratt School of Engineering is seeking to grow its strengths in interdisciplinary research, and we are particularly interested in candidates with the potential to bridge multiple departments. Where appropriate, candidates may be considered for joint appointments in other departments, such as Electrical and Computer Engineering. We anticipate hiring at the level of Assistant Professor, although truly exceptional candidates may be considered at the Associate or Full Professor level.
A PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field is required at the time of employment. The successful candidate is expected to carry out high quality scholarly research and collaborate with other faculty. He or she should have a clear plan to establish a vibrant research program, obtain competitive external research funding, and actively participate in teaching and mentoring at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Full consideration will be given to applications received by December 15, 2017, but the applications will continue to be accepted until the position is filled.
Applicants should electronically submit: (1) cover letter (including email, address, and phone number), (2) complete curriculum vitae, (3) two‐page statement of research achievements and interests, (4) one-page teaching statement, and (5) names, addresses, e‐mail addresses, and telephone numbers of five references to https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__academicjobsonline.org_ajo_jobs_10055&d=DwIFJg&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=dL5zrdenDIpYpboR2au3zb1yZ3Or4GGkt2xKVqE_BG4&s=rPbheOxTq98gxMGCLxnJrbvnKmu3E_S6yeI7W1MOkig&e=.
