We are conducting a joint open-rank search to fill in two positions in ME
and one position in ECE at UC Riverside. This search is part of our
strategic plan to further grow in the area of Robotics. We seek promising,
motivated, and passionate applicants to address emerging challenges in
Robotics Science and Engineering by capitalizing on recent progress in
Control Theory and AI, as well as their interplay.

*Control, Robotics, and Autonomy (CORA) - Joint search in Mechanical
Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering Departments, University
of California, Riverside*

*The Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and Mechanical
Engineering (ME) at the University of California, Riverside (UCR)* invite
applications for three positions in the fields of Control and Robotics.
These positions are part of our ongoing efforts to empower and broaden UCR’s
strengths in Control, Robotics, Autonomy, and Machine Intelligence, and will
spark new cross-disciplinary initiatives within and outside the Marlan and
Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering, for example with the School of
Medicine and the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

We seek applicants with complementary expertise to current ECE and ME
faculty to fill one position in ECE and two positions in ME, all open rank.
*We invite applications across the broad areas of Control and Robotics, with
particular emphasis on medical robotics, human-robot interaction,
micro/soft-robotics, distributed and autonomous systems, control theory, and
optimization.* We are especially interested in candidates who will create
new synergies among the Departments of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical
Engineering, and Computer Science. Successful candidates are expected to
lead cross-disciplinary theoretical and experimental research, as well as
new educational activities.

Applicants must have met the requirements for the Ph.D. in a relevant area
by the time of appointment. Women and members of traditionally
underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply. UCR is a
world-class research university with an exceptionally diverse undergraduate
student body.  Its mission is explicitly linked to providing routes to
educational success for underrepresented and first-generation college
students. A commitment to this mission is a preferred qualification.

Successful candidates will have a proven record of, or exceptional promise
for, developing a vibrant, externally-funded, and internationally recognized

or exceptional promise for, teaching core undergraduate courses in their
home department, and developing new undergraduate and graduate courses in
Control and Robotics.

Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is
through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3
years, which include substantial peer input.
