Job Description

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), located in Oshawa,
Ontario, advances the discovery and application of knowledge through a
technology-enriched learning environment and innovative programs responsive

The Department of Automotive, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
invites applications, from qualified individuals, for two tenure-track or
tenured positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the
area of Mechatronics Engineering, with preferred research expertise in one
of the following areas:
- sensor and embedded systems;
- autonomous systems with a focus on autonomous vehicles;
- artificial intelligence with applications in mechatronic systems; or
- collaborative robotics.  

These positions are subject to budgetary approval, and would start on July
1, 2018 or as soon as they are filled.

The successful candidates will be expected to conduct active and innovative
research programs and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
UOIT is a technology-enhanced learning environment and seeks faculty members
who strive to explore and develop new pedagogies by integrating technology
in the curriculum. Applicants will possess a Ph.D. in the area of
Mechatronics Engineering or a related field; a strong academic background;
an established record of excellence in innovative and scholarly research
leading to peer assessed publications; and be registered, or eligible and
committed to registration, as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. A
commitment to supporting student success has been demonstrated through
outstanding contributions to teaching, training and mentorship, as well as
institutional service. In addition, qualified candidates will possess
excellent communication skills demonstrated through a track record of
collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the
community at large and a commitment to promoting a respectful work and
learning environment.

The successful candidates will be expected to follow a 40% Research, 40%
Teaching and 20% Service workload each year.

The Department of Automotive, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
(AMME) offers a stand-alone honours undergraduate degree in Mechatronics
Engineering, in addition to honours undergraduate degrees in Automotive
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with Energy
option, and Manufacturing Engineering. Also offered are degrees in
Engineering and Management for each of these programs. The Department offers
Master’s (MASc and MEng) and PhD programs in Mechanical Engineering (with
various specializations), Automotive Engineering (MASc, MEng), and a
graduate program (MEng) in Engineering Management. The Department is
committed to excellence and innovation in interdisciplinary teaching and
research, which is relevant to the needs of society and our surroundings.

These positions fall within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT
Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the
collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty
Association.  The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources
section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience
and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in
the tenured and tenure track collective agreement.
