IRAS, within the Institute of Industrial Technologies and Automation (ITIA) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR), is seeking a research assistant/PhD candidate (the PhD will be in cooperation with Politecnico of Milano) to design and control a novel exoskeleton device to assist/support humans activities in the industrial field. The project is strongly related to the H2020 CleanSky 2 EURECA project (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.cleansky-2Deureca.eu_&d=DwIFAw&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=LxiDvIEhEhntwKM5g_AnR3vfxPNb5YoCSQk7Nm01J0o&s=u0XGhik9RnTjJ7k2p398u0Tq1jTMVsvoDq-suGk6pwU&e= ) devoted to automate the installation procedures inside the aircraft cabin environment. Moreover, the conceived device will be patented and included in the portfolio of the nascent CNR's spinoff iActSmart (with a main focus on VSAs).


The main goals of the project are:


- design and integrate an advanced VSA (variable stiffness actuator) solution;

- design novel control approaches to enhance human-robot cooperation;

- implement the proposed control algorithms based on ROS.

The selected candidate will undertake her/his research in the industrial robotics field, with a particular focus on cooperative and wearable robotics. Successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in control theory, programming (ROS is mandatory), mechanical design (CAD tools). Experience in machine learning and vision is a plus.
