===CFP: Special issue for the Journal of Medical Robotic Research (JMRR) with focus on Continuum, compliant, cognitive, and collaborative Surgical Robots===

We invite submissions to a special issue for the Journal of Medical Robotic Research (JMRR) with focus on Continuum, compliant, cognitive, and collaborative Surgical Robots.

New robotic technologies have led to significant advances in surgery in recent decades. Motivated to further reduce the invasiveness of robot-assisted surgery, new robotic systems are being created that enter the patient’s body via single ports or natural orifices and can reach and operate in difficult-to-access sites. However, there are still challenges to implement minimally invasive surgery with these new surgical robotic systems, such as the design, control, and sensing of surgical robots for specific clinical applications. This special issue aims to present emerging engineering-in-medicine technologies in continuum mechanism, human-robot compliant interaction, soft robotics, smart sensing, co-robotics, and artificial intelligence and their applications to robotic surgeries.

Submissions will follow the "JMRR instructions for authors" (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.worldscientific.com_page_jmrr_submission-2Dguidelines&d=DwIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=51q_qJwcAAkjTCaC9Z_FwxHYMt80CDpdckHbgP7aP14&s=PTcOG0BILSZ3HfkPlgknVZ_BIzg4RFp-zkJA9SEAH4U&e= ) and should describe one or more of the following topics of interest. All the submissions will be judged based on relevance to the JMRR SI topics, technical quality, and novelty.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

 Design, modeling and control of continuum surgical robotics
 Flexible robotics in surgery
 Physical human-robot compliant interaction
 Multi sensorized and data-driven robotic system in surgery
 Human-robot intelligent collaboration and shared control
 Variable stiffness robotic systems
 Tactile and haptic feedback in robotic surgery
 Machine learning and cognitive surgical robotics
