[robotics-worldwide] [journals] Short articles in honor of 2001: A Space Odyssey

Dr. Robin Murphy
Science Robotics is soliciting short (1,000 words or less) focus articles and videos for the October issue honoring the 50th Anniversary of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The article must describe a robotic achievement(s) that was inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey or is the realization of a technology in the movie. As an example either of these approaches would be fine:  “When I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey as a teenager, I knew I wanted to build natural language interfaces and the system built for robot R is our latest step towards HAL’s conversational ability.” or “The natural language interface we developed for robot R attempts to reach the conversational level of HAL, relying on common ground.” It should be written for a general audience, explaining the progress in robotics to the public. The deadline is Oct 19, see https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__robotics.sciencemag.org_&d=DwIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=hk_6HMNPhOfYJaOowxTQSYWD-6m-rZiYyWiiMEi9m64&s=16k5qM0DIZ0dN_GozUUpI9doGSjAwV3CaggN-Gpo6to&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__robotics.sciencemag.org_&d=DwMGaQ&c=ODFT-G5SujMiGrKuoJJjVg&r=EwmnYfgTJ37WtxcId518OXCiCmfgi00OpvivKg2loFQ&m=0xoNoIr1fGr9ZuoGSiB5j4jRm6tVe525YsggHOhumoQ&s=xaopXIIVRD3WwhZt7e2i0nP7N_vUovwxGKmSyiMb0SE&e=> and especially https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.sciencemag.org_sites_default_files_FocusDetailedInstructions-5F0.pdf&d=DwIFaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=hk_6HMNPhOfYJaOowxTQSYWD-6m-rZiYyWiiMEi9m64&s=xIgErH9qJJkjiz9g4PXAy5jWMqrzNPKtxjRLcuMjao4&e= <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.sciencemag.org_sites_default_files_FocusDetailedInstructions-5F0.pdf&d=DwMGaQ&c=ODFT-G5SujMiGrKuoJJjVg&r=EwmnYfgTJ37WtxcId518OXCiCmfgi00OpvivKg2loFQ&m=0xoNoIr1fGr9ZuoGSiB5j4jRm6tVe525YsggHOhumoQ&s=JnH7W5vBnAQoixGJegNuOLCgcoqEJe_JauMINGcY0uI&e=>  for more details on focus articles and the submission process.
