[robotics-worldwide] [meetings] ACS-2018 solicitation

Pat Langley
Dear Robotics Researchers,

I am writing to encourage you to submit papers to ACS-2018 (Advances
in Cognitive Systems) about robotic systems that combine high-level
reasoning with perception and action. We want this year's meeting to
be inclusive and the robotics community should be represented there.

The conference welcomes many types of research, from demonstrations
of new capabilities to empirical studies of implementations to formal
analyses of complex tasks. The term "cognitive" refers to any system
that thinks or reasons, even if not in the same way as humans.

I especially encourage submissions on integrated robotic systems,
cognitive robotics, and physical agents that reason about others. I
enclose generic information about the meeting below, but if you have
any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Best regards, Pat Langley

Dear Colleague,

The Sixth Annual Conference on Advances in Cognitive Systems (described
at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.cogsys.org_conference_2018_&d=DwIBaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=FaIZWXh_SWnljSaNphOUBS_iLQ3PhfR2J7zkfsWq-1E&s=1XMxM0oDdbSAQ1T6yV0yB3sm12TnoquW7Fa0OnYO1AQ&e=) will take place at Stanford
University from August 18 to 20, 2018, with submissions due May 25, 2018.
Accepted papers will appear in Advances in Cognitive Systems, a journal
that serves both as conference proceedings and archival publication.

Submissions may be 16 pages in the single-column format described at
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__cogsys.org_instructions_&d=DwIBaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=FaIZWXh_SWnljSaNphOUBS_iLQ3PhfR2J7zkfsWq-1E&s=lrQ3vRcv3-ny1A74MdyOfeW_00qVFC7Kzr9eZiy0FFI&e= , while accepted papers are expandable
to 20 pages and will appear as articles in the electronic journal. If you
decide to submit, then I encourage you to examine the review form at
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.cogsys.org_review-2Dform-2D2018_&d=DwIBaQ&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=FaIZWXh_SWnljSaNphOUBS_iLQ3PhfR2J7zkfsWq-1E&s=pJIedCqpDN2AiYvb8Iexu3y-DLp-R8f1JYiNQVq8wLM&e= , as referees will expect authors
to address each of its questions.

I think you will find much greater intellectual diversity at Advances in
Cognitive Systems than at AAAI, IJCAI, or other mainstream conferences,
with papers covering many different approaches to intelligent behavior.
We are especially interested in attracting graduate students, so I hope
you will share this message with your junior collaborators.

Sincerely,

Pat Langley, Program Chair
Sixth Annual Conference on
    Advances in Cognitive Systems
