The seventh IEEE RAS/EMBS International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics - BIOROB 2018 - is a joint effort of the two IEEE Societies of Robotics and Automation - RAS - and Engineering in Medicine and Biology - EMBS.



BIOROB covers both theoretical and experimental challenges posed by the application of robotics and mechatronics in medicine and biology. The primary focus of Biorobotics is to analyze biological systems from a "biomechatronic" point of view, trying to understand the scientific and engineering principles underlying their extraordinary performance. This profound understanding of how biological systems work, behave and interact can be used for two main objectives: to guide the design and fabrication of novel, high performance bio-inspired machines and systems for many different applications; and to develop novel nano, micro-, macro- devices that can act upon, substitute parts of, and assist human beings in prevention, diagnosis, surgery, prosthetics, rehabilitation and personal assistance.

TOPICS

The theme of BIOROB 2018 is high tech human touch. The technical program will consist of invited talks, special sessions, interactive session, and paper presentations. Papers can cover areas of Biorobotics and Biomechatronics including: Robotics and Rehabilitation, Biologically-Inspired Robotics, Robotic Surgery, Human-Machine Interaction, Wearable Technologies, Brain-Machine Interface, Neuroprosthesis, Robot Companions and Home Care, Technology Translation, Clinical, Commercialization, Human Augmentation, Micro-Robotics, Nano-Robotics



AWARDS

Best Conference Papers, Best Student Papers, and Best Demos will be awarded. During BioRob 2018 a special session will be organized where authors can bring and demonstrate robotic devices or other relevant hardware, as described in the paper they submitted. An International jury will select the best onsite demo.





LOCATION

The venue for the conference is the University of Twente in Enschede, The Netherlands. The venue is two hours by train from Schiphol Airport that has frequent direct flights to most countries. With Enschede as the home base, BIOROB delegates are well positioned to explore the Netherlands before and after the conference.
