2018 IEEE Haptics Symposium

March 25-28 in San Francisco, USA

The IEEE Haptics Symposium is a vibrant interdisciplinary research forum for scientists, engineers, and designers interested in touch-based interaction. In 2018, this four-day conference will be held at the Westin St. Francis on Union Square in San Francisco.

We seek exciting submissions in the following categories, as described below and overviewed at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__2018.hapticssymposium.org_submissioncategories&d=DwIF-g&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=qZ9JHhEq5Nv9zupJjEr4fREDcxy_P3IvNJ0CN4N_WhM&s=zXQknBF_xnYFEJmiTCuAftca3wIOOxZpcoX8iqT4D4E&e=

WORK-IN-PROGRESS PAPERS - due January 26, 2018

Work-in-progress papers enable authors to share late-breaking results with the research community. The emphasis of WIP papers is on the novelty of the work, not completeness. These short papers will be presented in a single-track poster session that will not be held in parallel with any podium or demo sessions. Accepted WIP papers will be included in the conference proceedings, but they will not be published in IEEE Xplore. Authors retain the full copyright of WIP papers so that they can submit a more mature version of the paper at a later time.

WIP papers should be prepared according to the formatting instructions available on the conference website. Authors should aim for a submission length of two pages; one extra page may added through a charge of $200, paid during conference registration. We encourage authors to include a video to help readers understand the WIP paper. Videos associated with accepted WIP papers may be used to promote the conference. The deadline for the submission of WIP Papers is January 26, 2018.

To submit a WIP paper or to obtain additional information, please go to https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__2018.hapticssymposium.org_workinprogresspapers&d=DwIF-g&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=qZ9JHhEq5Nv9zupJjEr4fREDcxy_P3IvNJ0CN4N_WhM&s=NL9PlOx_25abVgnRDX6EYHA74ibIxcTNlqcqlYjfexs&e=.

Address questions about WIP papers to the Work-in-Progress Chair (Vincent Levesque) at [hidden email].

HANDS-ON DEMONSTRATIONS - due January 26, 2018

Hands-on demonstrations are a crucial and popular component of haptic conferences, and multiple demo sessions will be held at the conference to enable greater sharing of developments in different areas of haptics. We welcome demonstrations that showcase novel haptic devices, software, or experiments. Authors of technical papers and WIP papers are particularly encouraged to apply for demonstration space to support their presentation.

Those interested in presenting a demo should submit a 100-word abstract no later than January 26, 2018. Each submission must include an image that can be used in the conference digest. It is also recommended to submit a supplemental video, which may also be used for promotional purposes at the conference and on social media sites. Demo applications will be reviewed to ensure relevance, novelty, and lack of commercial content.

To submit a proposal for a hands-on demonstration or to obtain additional information, please go to https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__2018.hapticssymposium.org_demos&d=DwIF-g&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=qZ9JHhEq5Nv9zupJjEr4fREDcxy_P3IvNJ0CN4N_WhM&s=9giLHhQgt_1V8XzYZ1-Dw7WHxpWvgUjYMUxm6mLrvCk&e=.

Address questions about hands-on demonstrations to the Demos & Exhibits Co-Chairs (Fabrizio Sergi and Mounia Ziat) at [hidden email].

EXHIBITS - due February 14, 2018

Companies are invited to engage with our community by displaying products and services that relate to haptics. Exhibiting requires payment of a fee to secure booth space.

In addition to presenting an exhibit, vendors and corporations are encouraged to help sponsor the 2018 Haptics Symposium to support the haptics community and maintain visibility within it. For a complete description of all of the exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities, please view the sponsorship prospectus at https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__2018.hapticssymposium.org_sponsors&d=DwIF-g&c=clK7kQUTWtAVEOVIgvi0NU5BOUHhpN0H8p7CSfnc_gI&r=0w3solp5fswiyWF2RL6rSs8MCeFamFEPafDTOhgTfYI&m=qZ9JHhEq5Nv9zupJjEr4fREDcxy_P3IvNJ0CN4N_WhM&s=l3hr0Rlfwq2RzgxZIlB6EIroNKBzeos2guRHu1VgYg0&e=.

Address questions about becoming an exhibitor and/or sponsor to the Sponsorship Co-Chairs (Nick Colonnese, Ann Majewicz, and Mike Yip) at [hidden email].

San Francisco is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California and the thirteenth most populous city in the United States. Home to many historic sites and famous attractions including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Chinatown district, this metropolitan area is also part of Silicon Valley, where many well-known high-tech companies reside. San Francisco’s airport offers direct flights to a broad range of domestic and international locations, and the city has excellent public transportation. The conference venue is the Westin St. Francis, a beautiful and historic hotel on Union Square.
