Robots and Systems, we will be hosting an open forum on

Future of Robotics and Automation in Nuclear Facilities & Environments

Call for Participation


In addition to the invited talks listed below, we are also soliciting

For those interested in giving a 15-20 minute presentation as part of the
Forum Program, please submit a one-page abstract for review and evaluation
by September 5, 2017 to:  [hidden email].  Selections will be announced by
September 12, 2017.


The objective of this forum is to facilitate exchange between researchers,
users, and decision makers of robotics and automation technologies in
nuclear operations and facilities. The forum will be in cooperation with
the Robotics and Remote Systems Division of the American Nuclear Society,
and will include presentations and discussions about the challenges of
normal and off-nominal operations, with particular interests in clean-up of
legacy nuclear facilities around the world, and ongoing recovery operations
at the Fukushima Daiichi site.

This full-day forum offers opportunities for researchers and end-users to
present results related to emerging technologies and capabilities for use
in extreme environments, deployments of robotic and remote systems into
hazardous environments, and developing a better understanding of the
requirements for performing work in extreme environments.  Specific topics
of interest are:

1. Updates on key R&A technologies applicable to Nuclear Facilities from
both academia and industry.

2. Presentations and discussions regarding recent waste site clean-up uses
of, and results with, R&A from around the world.

3. Presentations providing overviews of the detailed challenges and
requirements for completing work remotely in specific application spaces.

4. Technologies, capabilities, or user interface studies that enable
advance robotics and autonomous systems to be successfully deployed and
utilized by on-site personnel.

5. Presentations on existing, or emerging technologies, from other extreme
environments (space, underwater, battlefield etc.) relevant to the nuclear

1. Overviews and future plans robotics in waste clean-up programs in the US
and other countries.
2. Updates on the utilization and challenges in using R&A technologies at
the Fukushima Daiichi site.
